My professor provided feedback for the work you completed. Please can you incorporate the feedback into the completed work? Just to do corrections.
Concerning your formulas, you have the arrays well defined with the following format: ‘IT-Help-Desk-Data’!C2:C100001. You could put anything you want outside of that range and it will not be included in your calculations which is exactly what you want. However, you have completely excluded Excels ability to minimize work and potential for error with two mistakes that are both included in steps 3 and earlies as well as in my announcements.
The 1st is not making the arrays absolutely defined. An absolute reference utilizes the absolute flag “$” in front of the cell reference element (Row and/or column) and locks it in place. For example, C$1 locks the row reference of “1”. This allows you to copy your formula to other rows and that absolute reference will never change. If you copy the formula across columns, since the absolute flag is not in front of the column reference element, that will update. If you copy the formula one cell to the right, the C will increase to a D. If you copy the formula one cell to the left, the C will become a B. Sometimes that is exactly what you want and sometimes not. You can have multiple absolute flags in play: $C$1, $C1, C$1, or even $C$1:$C$58.
The 2nd is not using the positional references. Both positional and absolute references are covered in the Steps of the project. Think of an absolute reference as GPS coordinates. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from, if you have the GPS coordinates, you will always arrive at the correct location. Positional references in Excel are more like providing someone with driving directions without street signs: go straight two blocks, turn left and go straight for three blocks, turn right into the first parking lot…you have reached your destination. That only works if everything starts from the same place. Your original formulas use positional referencing with “C2:C100001”. However, we wanted that reference to be absolute so you can reuse it. If you only enter it once, you have fewer chances to make mistakes and you have to work less. Where you wanted the positional reference was here: “Management”. You manually entered “Management” or similar into Columns E and I……but they are already entered for you in columns C and G. When you are typing your formula, instead of entering “Management”, just point and click….or use your arrow key, to select the cell containing the data you are looking for.
Once you have a good formula with an absolutely defined array and a positional reference for the data being searched for, you can literally copy the entire cell and paste it into the other cells that use the same exact array and it will update automatically.
Concerning your QR Analysis Essay tab, charts are good, but your essay responses fall short of expectations. As stated in the announcements, all eight questions must be answered in a complete paragraph and must include quantitative data.
Announcement:
How is everyone holding up? I want to make sure that that you are seeing the announcements because there is not much real estate here. So, to read earlier announcements, make sure you SCROLL DOWN in case the earlier announcements disappeared under the “window” you see on your computer. You can see all announcements by selecting that choice. Please don’t forget that you have tutoring available not only for writing, but also for Excel. If you have not already done so, please email me how you are doing on your Project 4. Project 4 is not due until next Tuesday. You can do it! However, you cannot just jump down to the assignment. You will need to do each step; so, literally, take it one step at a time! :>). Read each Step, follow the links to learn about concepts and their application for absolute references and positional references. The techniques will minimize work and potential for error, so take advantage of them. Excel does have other tools for helping with data validation, so feel free to use those instead. This includes techniques such as named lists or the creation of data tables. Do not absolutely define variables in formulas by including the variable in quotation marks and do not define an entire column of 1.5 million lines as the data array. Be precise.
Concerning the essay questions, make sure that the answers to all eight questions meet the following two key criteria:
Answers must be presented in a full and complete paragraph (topic sentence, supporting points, and a conclusion statement.
Answer must include quantitative data. Do NOT include qualitative data.
So, easy does it! Good work, all!!
