Discussion 6 – Group 1
PROMPT
Imagine you are a middle school teacher (again)! This is your first year teaching, and you are excited as the school year is about to begin; however, you have not yet developed a plan for managing classroom misbehaviors. You speak to your colleagues who have more experience teaching, and they share with you a list of some common classroom misbehaviors. Note: You do not have to address all of these misbehaviors. They are just examples.
Disrespectful to teacher
Not following directions
Talking over teacher
Out of seat
Cussing
Inappropriate comments
Phone/earphones/fragrances out
Cheating
Not in assigned seat
ID not visible
Spending an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom
Roughhousing
Plagiarism
How would you use operant conditioning for classroom management? Consider PR, NR, PP, NP, reinforcement schedules, primary and secondary reinforcers.
How would you use observational learning for classroom management?
You will need to look for online resources for how teachers address misbehaviors. Be sure to reference these sources. The websites you find will likely not identify the specific operant conditioning procedures each classroom management strategy uses, so you will need to identify that.
